A THIRD WORLD VICTORY

Powerful economic powers were contesting for the venue of the Olympic Games of 2016, including the two most industrialized nations of the planet: the United States of America and Japan. However, Rio de Janeiro, a Brazilian city, won the contest.

Let it not be said that the wealthy nations were generous to Brazil, a Third World country.

The victory of that Brazilian city is evidence of the growing influence of the countries striving for their development. Surely, the Latin American, African and Asian peoples will rejoice in the election of Rio de Janeiro in the midst of the economic crisis and the ongoing uncertainty about climate change.

Even if such popular sports are baseball are removed from the competition to leave some space to the pastimes of the bourgeois and the rich, the Third World peoples share the joy with the Brazilians and will support Rio de Janeiro as the organizer of the 2016 Olympics.

It is a must to be equally united in Copenhagen and to make every effort to prevent that climate change and wars of conquest can prevail over the desire for peace, the development and survival of all of the peoples in the world.
